For this weeks article review I chose to review an article on effective blogging. I have had to study on blogging for multiple classes before for class projects. After reading through it some of the stuff was very familiar to what I had learned. Some really important things that I picked out of the article were to optimize it for visibility. The article recommends using tags on all images and headlines and subhead lines to provide most effective use for SEO. Something very important is to also make sure that each post has easy access for sharing on social media by having action buttons at the beginning and the end of each post. It is important to post consistently up to 2-3 times a week depending on the type of blog so that your followers will have continual traffic. Last thing I want to mention is that it is important to make a call to action at the end of each blog post.

How will this be useful to you in your role and in the future?

This will be useful because I will have it to use for the future blogs that I will write in this class and also for my future career. Understnading blogs is key to success in the communications field

So this week I read an article about how to function most effectively in a team. I found some interesting points in the article that helped me to see the importance of a teams full commitment to being successful. Some of the things that I liked that I read in the article were that a team should have a shared understanding of the team’s mission. It is important for us to all have the same vision as we go forth this semester to try and change the world. One thing that I want to apply in my group that was suggested in the article was to have an established decision-making model. It is easy for someone in a group to not be heard because they don’t understand the decision-making model in the group. It is important for everyone in the group to understand and feel like they are contributing in the group. The last thing that I really think will be important since we will be working with the same group is that we each have individual and team accountability.

How will this be useful to you in your role and in the future?

This article will obviously be helpful for me and my team this semester because we will be with each other working on projects for the rest of the semester. If we really want to get out and not just get a good grade but actually change the world, we have to be able to function at a high level and produce quality work. It is important for us all to have the same vision and for me it will help me share that vision with the rest of my team.

This week I decided to read an article about the basics of video production that was found in the media commons of Penn State University. I signed up to work on two videos for our groups because I really want to learn some of the basics of video production but I know that I didn’t know much so I started my study tonight. One of the highlights that I learned from the video was that audio quality is one of the most important things in production of the video. When recording it is very important that the background noise is very limited, unless it is desired for effect in the video. Another thing that I learned is that there is a space called lead room. This is important if an interview is being done and the person being interviewed is not looking directly at the camera. It is important that there be a space left open in front of them. Otherwise it appears that they are sneaking off of the camera. One more thing that I learned was that it is important to hold shots for roughly 5-10 seconds longer than you think you are going to need for editing purposes. It is important to have that extra recording time just incase more time is needed in the editing process. The last thing I will mention from the article that I learned was it is important to use cutaways and B-rolls. These are parts of video footage that establishes the scene and shows detail or makes the video more interesting. For example if you are interviewing someone and they are talking about where they live or their hobbies, you can show a picture of where they live or their hobbies as they mention them in the interview.

How will this be useful to you in your role and in the future?

This will obviously be useful for me since i am going to be a part of two of the videos that we will be producing as a group during this semester. Also I know in the PR field these talents are needed and much appreciated by employers. In fact it is almost getting to the point where these types of talents are required or at least the basics of them are in any field of the communications department.

This article talks about the best way to market yourself on social media and the best ways to get your content noticed. One of the tips that is mentioned is to share content more than once. This is important for us because as we begin to post our works we need to realize that we just cant post it once and forget about it. We have to make sure to keep on posting it at the right times so that more of our audiences get reached. Another tip that it mentions as part of that is to be able to hit multiple time zones. IF you have a global audience then it is important to post at the hot times for more than one time zone. another point of this article is to point use other websites to help you notice when is the most optimal time to post to get the biggest follow. last important thing i took away from the article is to keep on top of your brand or topic and find great content that goes a long with what you are writing about.

How will this be useful to you in your role and in the future?

This will be useful for me in the future because we are going to have to start publishing our work so that we can change the world. It is important for us to know the tips on how to get our content noticed because we have such a small reach. We need to build up our reach and part of that is taking advantage of the reach that we already had. This article helps out a lot with that. This will help in the future as i will most likely have to deal with social media content and how to get it most noticed for my employer. Building these habits not will be the most beneficial for our future especially because social media continues to change.

This article was about basic tips that will help create images that are worth looking at. After our class thursday i really wanted to learn more about some of the tips that i could use to enhance my ability to create solid images for my work. One of the cool points that i liked was the ability to add transparent icons in the background. It adds a great touch to an image with little additions like that. Something that i learned in class and that this article stressed was the importance of fixing color issues in images. Every picture can be retouched to make it look better. Just a few simple minutes in photoshop can change a picture dramatically. One of the last tips that i will mention from the article is to just practice often and publish your work and get the real life opinions on your work. Its important to find your type of work and develop it.

How will this be useful to you in your role and in the future?

This will be useful for me because it will help me in all of the rest of the projects i have in school and for work. This will definitely help in the other classes that i am in this semester. I can think of two other classes that i am taking this semester where i will use these talents weekly. This will help in future jobs and my ability to prove my worth to them and also it will help me in job hunting. These talents are necessary in the communications world. It is important to be visually literate more than anything.

So this week we did all the preliminary work for our short video and part of that was having to make a storyboard. I have never done one so i wanted to look up how to do one because i knew that it was important to making a successful video. This article gives the basics of why it is important to storyboard and also the basics on how to do it. It is important to storyboard because it allows you to visualize something without just the text. It puts a cinematic touch to your basic idea of what your video is going to be like. Another reason that they are important is because it makes setting up the production for the video a lot faster and easier. In the long run it will just save you a lot of time.

The basics on making a storyboard is to make a series of squares and add images to the scenes of your shots with images. These images do not need to be professionally drawn or even include all of the background but it does need to capture the basic gist of what is going to be in the scene. It is important to write some of the lines that will be said in each scene under the images.

Some helpful tips to keep in mind  are to make sure that you are showing and not telling by letting the images determine your story and not just the text. Make sure that it is logical and coherent. The last tip is to make sure to include all relevant details so that when looking over it creates a full image of what you are doing.

How will this be useful to you in your role and in the future?
This will be helpful for me in my role in the team because for the next video i will be able to help contribute more to the storyboard. This will be helpful for me in the future because if i am asked to help participate in the creation of a video i will have a better idea of how to set it up and how to make it an easier process for everyone involved in the process. This important because the more technological talents you have in PR the more useful you will be to your boss and to your company.

This article talks about the basics of Google analytics and how to use it. It gives 4 steps that give a brief summary of how to best maximize it. The four are Basic google analytics metrics, website performance overview report, main traffic sources report, top landing pages report. For the first part it talked about the importance of page views and pages per session. I didn't know about the importance of having people explore more pages on your website because it makes them stay longer. In the second part it talked about a bounce rate and how we should keep it at a solid 70-80%. The third part talks about the importance of getting traffic and directing it. The fourth one talks more about the hotspots on your page. overall the article talks about the importance of tracking progress over time.

How will this be useful to you in your role and in the future?
This will be useful for me right now in my role in the group because i can help direct our traffic and figure out where it is coming from which can help us spread our page more. Also this is important for my future because i will most likely be managing social media at some point and it is important to have a solid background in google analytics.

Because this week we are going to be editing our first video I decided it would be important to learn about some editing tips so that we can all participate in the process. This article gives 10 easy tips on how to edit videos. One of the first tips that it gives is to not start editing the video shot by shot but to get everything in chronological order. Then after that you can work after watching the whole thing through. One of the first steps that you want to take care of after that is to trim the beginning of clips like the beginnings and endings of clips that are unusable. As we learned in class another great tip is to try multiple tracks of music with your video so that you can get the different types of feel that multiple different tracks can bring to your video.

How will this be useful to you in your role and in the future?
This will be useful to me in my role of the group because we are editing our first video. Although only one of us will be editing the video behind the computer it is important to know the tips behind it so we can spot what we need in the rough drafts of the video. This will help in the future because it is another talent that i will have under my belt so that i can help on multiple facets of projects and not just the strategic planning of them.

this article talks about how the best way to get better reach and more coverage on Facebook without spending money. It lists many ways on how to do this but i will only mention a couple that really stood out to me and that i liked. One of the ones that i didn't know that i thought would me the most effective is to tell your fans to change it to get notifications first so that no matter when you post your content will always show up in their feed first when they log on. Another great way is to see who are your top 10 audiences and what are your top ten posts and analyze them and see what is the best way to make your content more specific for them.

How will this be useful to you in your role and in the future?
This will be useful for me and my group as we continue to try to spread our content. I also believe this will be useful for me because i will use this strategy for my internship this summer and also when i work for my brother and how im going to manage his social media.
