- There are good things about technology
- bring people together
WHAT GROUP IS TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH: We want our audience to put down the phone and to really be in the moment. We want to highlight the good side and the positive aspect of using technology wisely.
IMPLEMENTATION: We want to do this in a two part campaign. The first part, we want to show our research. We want to show the effects that technology is having on society and our personal relationships. We will do this through primary and secondary research. The second part, we want to show the positive consequences of putting the phone down. We will write blogs, interviews, video testimonials, infographics, and even challenges for our audience.
We will reach our target audience through blogs, infographics, and videos. The best social media platforms for this campaign will be Instagram and Facebook. Facebook will make our blogs and videos more easily shareable, and Facebook will be a way to share our positive message as well as invite people to look at our Facebook page. We want to emphasize that technology use is not bad, in fact there are many advantages; we do, however, want to emphasize of not being distracted and being 100% in the moment.

If you’re anything like the average millennial the last thing you look at before you go to bed and the first thing when you wake up is a four inch screen. Although it’s fun to look at the newest viral video, the trending hashtags, the latest Instagram post or your best friend’s snap story, sometimes a smartphone can lead to endless wasted hours and pointless procrastination. Here are a few signs that you might be addicted to your device.
1. You can’t go for very long without checking your phone.
2. Falling asleep is a challenge
Many people who have cellphones, use them as alarm clocks and thus many keep them in or close to bed before sleep. This makes it easy to finishing that last Netflix episode, check that snap from a friend or finish that blog post before you shut your eyes. A 2008 study hosted by many mobile phone companies showed that people exposed to cellular radiation close to sleep, “took longer to fall asleep and spent less time in a deep sleep.”
3. Being around other people is still lonely
According to a 2012 study, people attached to your smartphone can lead to feelings of depression and loneliness even when you’re surrounded by other people.
4. You never miss a #mcm, #wcw, #tbt or #fbf
5. Panic ensues when you can’t find your phone
Nothing compares to the sinking, sickening feeling when your phone goes missing. The frantic search begins with tearing apart your room, vigorous shouting and cursing the universe until you realize your phone has been in your back pocket all along. This is such a wide-spread stressor that apps have even been created to find your phone.
6. Having a face-to-face conversation is difficult
We do a lot of talking, but very little of it is in person, in fact 51 percent of teens would rather communicate over social media or text than in person.
7. You have never been more aware of how ‘single’ you really are
People getting married, engaged, having babies, no big life event happens without a post on Facebook.
8. Walking or driving while texting has almost lead to your death
9. You experience phantom vibrations
Phantom vibration syndrome is a real thing, I didn’t just make it up. According to WebMD, this phenomenon is “where people think their mobile phone is ringing or vibrating when it’s not.”
10. When your battery dies it is literally the worst thing ever
11. You find yourself talking in hashtags
This form of vocal communication has grown so much in popularity that Jimmy Fallon did an entire skit about it on The Tonight Show.
12. Completing a meal without posting a picture to Instagram or Snapchat is impossible
The term “food porn” was coined by the internet in response to the large number of appetizing edibles that continued to pop-up on Instagram, Snapchat, and other social media sites. In fact some of the highest viewed videos on social media are cooking and food preparation tutorials. 17 out of the 20 most popular videos posted to BuzzFeed in the month of November 2015 were food tutorial videos totaling over 1.7 billion views.
PHONE USER TYPES
By Brennan Edwards and Jarom ShaverWe all have seen the Dude Perfect stereotypes videos and yes they’re hilarious. We realized that they were missing a stereotype spoof that is very important—types of phone users. After doing some serious people watching, we picked the six types that kept popping up, made a video and now a blog.
The Text and Driver
We all do it or have done it but this one is no joke. Hopefully, some recent statistics will help us realize the gravity of what we’re doing when we text and drive. The Huffington Post found that 49 percent of adults admit to texting and driving regularly, but what’s even more shocking is that 98 percent of adults say they know the practice is unsafe. In America one in four automobile accidents involve a cell phone, don’t let yourself be part of that statistic. The Walk and Texter
Not much to be said for this one, I'll just leave this here…
The Snapper
The new question of the century will be, if you don’t document something on snapchat, did it even happen at all?
Did you know?
- Over 9,000 snaps are shared every second.
- Over 400 million snaps are shared per day.
- The average snapchat user spends 30 minutes per day in the app.
- Over 1 billion snapchat stories are viewed each day.
The Nervous User
Raise your hand if you are guilty of using your phone to escape an unwanted/awkward situation. Its sad, but too many times we pull out our phone to appear busy so that we can avoid certain situations or people.
Sergey Brin, the co-founder of google is also guilty of this bad habit. In a recent TED talk Brin said, "The cellphone is a nervous habit. If I smoked, I'd probably smoke instead, it'd look cooler. But I whip this out and look as if I have something important to do … It really opened my eyes to how much of my life I spent secluding myself away in email."
The Distracted User
Have you ever felt like this when talking to someone while they are on their phone? Don’t be that person….. you’re better than that. The Responsible User
Wherever you are, be all there. Take
the vow today to be different and be the responsible user that is willing to put your phone down and enjoy all of the different situations you find yourself in. There are appropriate times to use your phone but be wise and enjoy each unique setting you find yourself in.
