Jan. 15 Application Log

This week from the personality test I have been able to see how my relationships function and why they function the way they do. After taking the test I made my girlfriend take the test and it was interesting to see what colors she was. I guessed that she was a yellow and it was the majority leader for her, however, she had a bunch of white that I never had noticed much in her. Because of that I have been able to handle situations differently and realize that she doesn’t always get out her feelings as much or as easy as she would like to.
I was dominantly blue and it was a good time for me to sit back and reflect and determine what other attributes of the other colors that I would like to adopt and use in my own life. It was nice in class to sit back and reflect on how the most successful people in this world have been able to develop attributes from each color and make it their own.

Jan. 22 Application Log

So this week we did not get the chance to have much lecture in class but it was a good time to be able to focus on building a team and finding topic to work on for the rest of the semester. We chose cell-phone etiquette and since we chose the topic I was able to start doing some secondary research and learn more about how I use my cell-phone in settings. I as a millennial was raised in a certain generation where the use of cell-phones has continually changed but now has reached a point where the usage of cell-phones almost seems constant. As I was able to reflect on my own usage I was able to make some changes, like deleting some apps from my phone that were distracting me from being present in some situations. I have felt happier since I have focused on that and my communication with others has definitely increased. Also, with the work with the team I was able to apply what we had previously learned in class the last week and use it to help our team thrive and make goals that we need to accomplish to be successful the rest of the semester.

Jan. 29 Application Log

So this week for my application log I took something away from one of the presentations that I have been focusing on. I really liked the grandma presentation and how they want to bridge the gap between grandparents and their descendants. I like the idea of bridging the cyber chasm. Interesting thing is that I don’t have any grandparents alive and for the vas majority of my life I never have had grandparents. However, my parents are a little bit older than most parents. My dad is 72 years old and my mom is 66 so there is definitely the technological gap sometimes with our communication. They both are pretty good with their cell phones but beyond that sometimes it can get confusing. So in order to bridge the gap I have really tried to call them more and be more informational with them. I try to send them more pictures to their phones and things that they can look at. I know it makes a big difference for them and their happiness when I do so. They love to receive daily notifications about how I am doing.

Feb. 5 Application Log

This week for my application log I focused on our first blog post. It was called 12 signs that you are addicted to your phone. One of the parts of the blog post was about how having a face-to-face conversation is difficult. This week in my conversations I have been trying to not pull out my phone when I find myself in conversation. It was surprising to see how when I was paying attention to it how many times I wanted to pull out my phone and look at it. Another part of the post was how being around other people is still lonely. Part of that happens because I realized that I was not actively participating in conversation in groups when I was in them. When I made the effort to pay attention in groups I noticed that I enjoyed myself a lot more and I never felt lonely even when I was with people that I am always with. I have made an honest effort this week to pay attention and work on being present in all situations. I have seen a huge increase in my ability and desire to socialize.

Feb. 12 Application Log

This week for my application log I focused on the importance of making things go viral and how they go viral. It made me think of a Facebook page that I used to work for called NBA Gold that has more than 270,000 followers. I went back and found some of the posts that I wrote and tried to figure out why some of them went viral and did not. I took screenshots of the posts that I noticed were the most successful and studied why. I don’t write for the blog anymore but it was good for me to kind of copy cat some of the things that I noticed from the posts and use them for the work that I am doing in this class and also the work that I am doing for my comms 321 class. Also for the next project that I am working on for this class we are doing a video and we have been planning out our script and what shots we want to take and we are using a lot of the tips that we learned from class. We are also using most of our ideas on how to make the video unique to our audience like we had talked about in class. Our audience is millennials so I guess that makes it a little bit easier because we are targeting ourselves pretty much.

Feb. 19 Application Log

Since we did not have class this week, I applied a lot of the things that we have been learning over the semester to create and finish my personal e-profile. As far as the graphic design point of it I made it as appealing as I could and edited my picture that I used of myself to make it more appealing.
Also we started to storyboard our first video and get all the preliminary group work done. I was able to reflect back and use some of the group organization things we learned in class and also I was able to use some of the personality colors to be able to help us agree on ideas and disagree for ideas on the videos. It was useful because all three of us were different colors and I could tell that from the beginning but we figured out how to get out the best ideas from each of us and apply it to make the video the highest quality that we can. One more thing that I have tried to apply that we have talked about briefly in class is analytics. I have shared with a couple people my linkedin and eprofile blog and I have been able to see what kind of traffic has come through and that has helped me fine tune what I put on all the pages.

Feb. 26 Application Log

This week for my application log I focused on what we learned in class on Thursday from the presenter. I am going to be starting my own social media page with my sister soon and so I looked more into google analytics and how it can benefit my page more in the future and what tools I can use to figure out how well I am reaching my target audience. I never realized how much analytics could affect the success of a page. I thought for a long time that it was just producing a lot of content and hoping you get lucky. However, after the presentation I learned that consistency is key and that is what an audience wants. After class I talked to my sister about setting up a continuous plan to release our content at the right rate so that we can get a solid amount of followers and a current growing rate of followers. This also affected our group projects because we decided we need to set up a better calendar on when to release our content and how to make it a more steady rate of release for our content so that way we can really try to change the world and have an impact.

March 4 Application Log

My work in the group has been constant and i feel like i have worked hard on all of the things that I said I was going to work on. I have contributed to our website by co-writing a blog and sharing all of our content on social media. I have shared a lot on our facebook and brought traffic from friends and family to increase our likes. and reach. Our first video will be released next week and i contributed a lot to that with the script and the acting part of it. Although Shanoah will be doing the majority of the editing we will be providing a lot of feedback before we finally submit the video. I am also in the works of writing another blog. We felt that i was contributing a lot of good ideas to the group and a lot of energy but that i could work on helping with getting more people involved in the thought process. I plan on sharing more of my ideas with group and getting more of their feedback on the rest of my ideas. I want to involve them more in my thought process so that they can develop the ideas with me.

March 11 Application Log

So this week I applied what we learned about Facebook boosting on posts. I went through after because we are about to release our video and we know that it has potential to go viral as we market it to the right audience. I looked at the options of audiences and selected 5 or 6 that we can target our video at.
I also went over our groups content and analyzed how we could make it better after we analyzed other groups content. I am excited to get to present our stuff to the class to see what they get out of our content and see if they come up with some of the same solutions that i cam up with.

March 18 Application Log

So the last couple of days i have been focusing on narrative story that we learned about in class and because of that we decided to change our last video to a narrative about our experience with a technology fast. Because of the lecture i wrote the storyboard with the narrative in mind and then got contributions from the rest of the group and we all feel better now than before about our last video. We hope that we can have more of an effect to our audience with this video and concept than with our other content that is more information based.

March 25 Application Log

So this week I really loved the presentation we had on Thursday and the thing that stood out to me most is that in marketing and trying to make something viral you need to make sure to not do stuff that he already been done. Also I loved how he talked about how you need to do stuff that is just a little outside of the circle of what your audience expects of you and how it all comes back in circle. So for the next blog post I write I'm going to incorporate these ideas as I try to not do something that has been done before. I loved our first video but we did something that has been done before so for our second video I'm really pondering on ways to make our video unique and not what our audience expects of us.

April 1 Application Log

So this week we learned a lot of good things but one thing that i really applied to our blog that I just finished writing was the use of gifs. we wrote a blog to go along with our video that we just released and we used a gif for each one of the points that we made. So in the end we ended up using 6 different gifs to relate to our millennial audience. I also used some of the tips that our last guest speaker taught us about thinking outside of the box of what our topic just is. we used some of the driving and texting to get some more followers on our blog and website.
